GODALMING

Our brief was to ‘re-imagine the existing parterre garden into a more functional and attractive space that is brighter and more inviting that links with the wider garden and landscape’.

This grade two listed property dates back to the 15th century and our client was having an extension/renovation undertaken on one section of the house that is adjacent to the current parterre garden. Given the new internal layout meant that this space now needed to be updated and softened with a change of material that was respectful to the house; so natural materials were a must.

Our client didn’t want to see more red brick so our choice of clay pavers and natural sandstone allowed us to be creative with the space whilst reusing all the existed bricks for the new low retaining walls and steps.

Creating a wildflower meadow and linking it with more substantial planting borders closer to the house assists in softening the terrace.
